As with many fields which are being advanced worldwide, Chile is among the first countries in South America to participate in the worldwide rollout of 5G. The 5G network generally operates at frequencies which have known military applications and previously have been unused for mass communication. Early tests in Chile done by Entel and Ericsson have recorded a speed of 25.4 Gb/second at the 28GHz frequency; it is thought that most consumers can expect average speeds of 1 Gb/s
